Hostal Balneario la Encarnacion:  This is by far the best restaurant we have found.  If you don't mind spending a little more then this is really worth a visit.  The menu is varied and locally sourced which it has been since opening early in the 1900's.  The food, I don't think, you could find better from any top restaurant in London. The inside is decked out with large comfortable wicker chairs and surrounded by early photos some of which are past family members. As you walk on through this room you are greated by the most wonderful courtyard, dripping with wisteria, jasmin and bougainvillea. Our holiday is not complete without at least one visit here. This is one customers comments:

This restaurant was recommended to us by a local. It is an old hotel built 1904 which fronts directly on to the beach. There is a large veranda outside for al-fresco dining. We had lunch – didn’t book – they have loads of tables. Drinks order was taken quickly and the drinks appeared instantaneously – a first!! We have our 3 young kids with us and there is a kids menu although only one of them used it. We had an incredible octopus starter – totally amazing and some super fresh prawns (a bit on the small side for me – and €4 each..). Mains were also wonderful, beef cheek and a supreme salted bass. Quite expensive for UK visitors but worth every penny. The service was excellent, quick and in English when our Spanish failed us! Highly recommended. Also take a look at the internal courtyard – it could be an Edwardian filmsetne customers coments:

This is another favourite of ours.  We strubbled across it after a trip to the mountains and what a find it tunred out to be!

Rebate is a very small village situated approximately 10 kilometres from San Miguel. The family run restaurant and picturesque church nestle in peaceful and beautiful countryside and is the perfect place for a number of occasions, whether it is a romantic meal, ceremony or a place to bring your family. The restaurant has a children’s play area and emus, goats, peacocks, ducks and chickens can be found wandering around the grounds.

22_DSA6619The main restaurant seats 200 people and there is also a beautiful outside terrace area which seats 350 and where diners can sit and soak up the glorious sunshine and marvel at the beautiful scenery afforded to Rebate. Rebate has just added a new dining room to its main restaurant which has a typical Spanish rustic feel with soft lighting and beamed ceilings and is perfect for intimate celebrations or romantic dinners.
The quaint and picturesque church is set next to the restaurant amongst palm trees and is available for any religion, baptisms, renewal of vows, blessings and funerals.
All food is freshly sourced and cooked by head chef, Erik Van Iseghem and his assistant chef, Darian Pazo. For starters try tapas style Scallops from Galicia, Greek salad, Salad with a Honey & Mustard Dressing, Dates wrapped in Bacon, Grilled Foie Gras, Mini Scallops in Garlic & Chilli Oil, Lobster Claws and Smoked Salmon & Caviar. For main course try the Leg of Lamb, Rib Steak, Pork with Mushroom & Port Wine Sauce, Ravioli stuffed with Foie Gras, and Salmon with Parmesan Shavings. For dessert enjoy a selection of house desserts.

As well as an extensive menu Rebate also offers a menu del dia which is priced at 12.85 and again the quality and quantity of food served for this price is remarkable.
If you have not already sampled the Rebate experience then I cannot urge you enough to get in your car and visit this wonderful gem in the not so distant future. If you would like to contact Rebate the main telephone number is 966190942 or 676831836.

There are a couple of Indian restaurants about a kilometre from the main entrance of the resort.  Both are very good, but will need to book as they are very popular.  Information can be found in information box at the villa.

The last but certainly not the least restaurant I would like to mention is Bar, Restaurant Columbus set in the heart of Cartagena.  As you walk up the main street from the port, past the town hall and  museum you will find yourself in the bustling high street surrounded by shops and restaurants.  I love this town, eating delicious sardines and watching the very cosmopolitan people promenading.
